A Few Facts About Me

I first started my blog when I finished my undergraduate degree in 2015. Back then I wanted something to fill the void of learning – I felt that my life had become static and it was just passing me by. But as a complete novice, it took me a good couple of years to finally get to a place where I was happy with my blog and its content. Throughout that time, I have taught myself more than I give myself credit for. I have built a strong, supportive network on social media, and I continue to blog as much as I can. I thought it would be a good idea to write a blog post just about me. I love reading other bloggers bio’s in more detail!

  1. I have an undergraduate degree in English Literature and a Postgraduate degree in Creative Writing.

  2. I get bored easily. It took years to find a job I truly enjoyed.

  3. I work in Digital Marketing. My role is to manage accounts, manage social media accounts, optimise websites so they’re SEO friendly and do content writing. Fun fact – I applied and got accepted to do a Masters in Advertising and Marketing, but chose Creative Writing at the last minute.

  4. I have changed the name of my blog three times since I started it – Gemma and Life is perfect as it sums up what my social media and blog is all about.

  5. I wanted to be a teacher growing up and I almost did my teacher training before deciding to do an MA instead.

  6. Tom and I met at uni. We both applied to do Masters at the 11th hour and were friends for 6 months before we started dating.

  7. I am a self taught cook. My mum always hated cooking, but I have always found it cathartic and fulfilling. I love cooking for other people and I would definitely say I am a feeder.

  8. I’ve always been an avid reader and I am always buying new books. I love reading crime thrillers and the occasional romance novel.

  9. Although I did my Masters in Creative Writing, my ambition is not to write a novel.

  10. I am obsessed with stationery. Paperchase is one of my favourite shops in the world and I love having pretty notebooks and pens!

  11. I got my first and only tattoo the day before turning 30. I felt like I hadn’t achieved enough on my bucket list so I got a small sunflower on my arm as I figured I would never hate it.

  12. We have a cockapoo puppy called Hendricks. He’s named after the gin, not Jimmy!

  13. My favourite drink is a gin and tonic.

  14. I ALWAYS have fresh flowers in the house, sometimes two or three bunches!

  15. Tom is my best friend, and I am a believer in fate. We both applied for our MA at the last minute, and clicked straight away.

  16. I much prefer going to a pub and having a takeaway than going out to a club. 10 years ago, I was out every weekend, but I’m far too lazy and tight to spend that much money on going out out now!

  17. I have comfort TV shows that I re-watch numerous times when I feel anxious. My go-to shows are; The Office (US), Homeland, and Desperate Housewives.

  18. My favourite books are The Millennium Trilogy. I think they are so well written and intense. They would be the ones I would take on a desert island.

  19. I don’t have a sweet tooth. You will rarely see me having a dessert or chocolate. But I do love crisps!

  20. If I was on death row, I would have a ribeye steak and lobster for my final meal.

  21. Tom is an eighth generation oysterman, but I have developed an allergy to them so I cannot take advantage of free oysters for life!

  22. I support Chelsea, and love all kinds of sport. I have missed it dearly during the pandemic.

  23. My favourite city break to date is Paris. I totally fell in love with the city and the food. I can’t wait to go back.

  24. I have an interest in WWII history and fiction.

  25. I have 1 niece and 2 nephews who I love dearly. I cannot wait to see them once this is all over, I have missed them so much.

  26. I have an irrational fear of cats. I am petrified of them, but I’m not really sure why. I even have nightmares about them!

  27. I have a teddy that I have had since a baby and I left it at a hotel in London a couple of years ago and I was inconsolable. Luckily, the maid handed it in to lost property and my friend was in London that weekend so he went across the city to collect it for me. The teddy doesn’t have a name or gender, it’s just teddy, but one of my most precious possessions.

  28. Christmas is my favourite time of year. I love decorating the Christmas tree and watching Christmas films.

  29. The only jewellery I wear is my engagement ring and my watch.

  30. I’ve never had an operation. Hopefully that is something I can avoid forever!
